This 12-hour advanced position training is designed to prepare Home Health Aides to work with client populations facing mental and behavioral health challenges. Key themes of this training include noticing “red flags,” observing and reporting, safety, and is focused on recognizing and responding to behaviors (as opposed to diagnoses). Topics addressed in the training include but are not limited to: understanding mental illness, the role of the Supportive Home Care Aide, working with hoarding behaviors, working with psychotic behaviors, working with depressed, suicidal, and anxious behaviors, working with medications, and self-care.
This 12-hour training is designed to prepare Home Care Aides to work with client populations with Alzheimer’s Disease or other Dementias. This training utilizes the Alzheimer’s Association’s Habilitation Therapy model – a person centered approach to dementia care. It covers five habilitation “domains” including, communication, the physical environment, approaches to personal care, activity as purposeful engagement, and understanding behavior as communication.
