Home Care FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Home Care

The world of home care continues to evolve but we want you to know that we are here to help provide the care required to age in place and guide you through the entire process start to finish. To help clarify, we have prepared this brief list of Frequently Asked Questions which we hope will help answer some of the questions you may have when it comes to home care…

Why choose home care?

Home care is one of the most affordable and economical care options when compared to alternative options such as nursing homes (also referred to as a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)). The cost of care in a SNF setting versus in-home care is drastically different and opting for home care can save more money in the long run while allowing clients to age in place in the comfort of their own home. Many individuals want to age-in-place and this has become even more desirable during and after COVID because living at home gives YOU the authority to decide who can come to visit- not a facility telling you who can and cannot visit and when they can visit.

Why choose ABC Home Healthcare Professionals?

With us, you are not just a number- you are truly a valued client! We are committed to life at home and our services are highly customizable to enable you/your loved one to receive the care needed in order to maintain and independent lifestyle. ABC Home Healthcare Professionals was founded by a Family Nurse Practitioner and Geriatric Care Manager who has dedicated over 40 years to the healthcare industry. ABC is a solid home care agency built on a foundation of the founder’s clinical experience- not a businessman or businesswoman looking for their next venture. At ABC, we offer FREE Nursing Assessments before starting a case* which are conducted by one of our licensed nurses who will create custom care plans for you and/or your loved one. In addition, our licensed nurses provide oversight for all our home care aides and workers on a regular basis to ensure that care plans are being carefully followed. Our nurses will also revise care plans if/when needed over time to ensure you/your loved one is receiving the best care possible. Learn more about what makes ABC different from other agencies>the ABC difference.

Just how customized can home care be for each client?

Everyone is different as are their needs which is why home care services are highly customizable! One of our licensed nurses will create a care plan tailored to your/your loved one’s specific needs and we provide a team of workers to provide the care needed to help you/your loved one live safely and independently at home.

How can I guarantee the quality of the worker being sent to the home?

We care about our clients and their care which is why we hire only the very best candidates we can find! At ABC, we have a rigorous hiring process in place to ensure that we are hiring only top-notch home care workers. All home care workers undergo a CORI/background check and our Human Resources Department verifies both personal and professional references for the prospective worker before they are hired. Once they are officially a member of the team, all workers complete our New Hire Orientation and are oriented on-site by a mentor and/or one of our licensed nurses so that they clearly understand what is expected of them in their role.

What are the different ways to pay for care?

Perhaps the most daunting part of home care or selecting any care option is trying to figure out how you will pay for that care. Here are a few ways that you can cover the cost of care:

  • Private Pay
  • Long-Term Care Insurance
  • Aid and Attendance (VA) Benefits
  • State Funding Through Local Elder Service Agency

Still not sure what to do when it comes to affording the care you need?

The best thing you can do if you are concerned with how to afford the care you need is to consult with an Intake Specialist at your local Aging Service Access Point (ASAP) or Elder Services Agencies. Here is a list of Elder Service Agencies that we partner with in the various communities that we serve:
